Work in progress:
About an Undisciplinable Tree
The project focuses on the rare dwarf beech (Fagus sylvatica tortuosa), which is completely useless for any industrial use because of its weird, twisted growth form. For that reason, its forests were destroyed in Germany in the 19th century through large-scale clearing. Today, the only remaining large populations can be found around Torna Hällestad (Sweden) and Verzy (France).
The history and present of this unusual tree is used as an allegorical starting point to examine the psychosocial consequences of the climate crisis and the changing patterns of behavior and thinking in this context.
The research-based project also includes the planting of a young dwarf beech.
In addition to the exhibition presentation, a publication will be developed as an independent artistic format.
